WE LOVE DINOSAURS

Before I had children, I already knew that there was a lot I would be able to teach them, but what I didn't know, was how much I would learn from my children.  Patients, sharing, politeness, and manners are just a few of the things I have had to fine tune within myself while teaching my children what's right and wrong.  But, never in my life would I have guessed that I would have so much knowledge and interest in something as foreign to me as Dinosaurs!  I really do find them fascinating now and I can thank my 4 year old, future Paleontologist Zach, for that.  It is amazing how much information his little brain has stored about dinosaur facts and fiction, enough that he could teach a High School science class, no doubt about it!  Not only can he give you all the facts about which dinosaurs are carnivores and herbivores, which lived during the cretaceous period and how many years ago that was, but you will also get a very true-to-life enactment of what that dinosaur may have sounded like, moved like, ate like, and of course, how many claws it had.  If your lucky, you will get the baby dinosaur version, that's my favorite, according to Zach, baby dinosaurs love to snuggle and are very sweet!  All of this knowledge has also been absorbed by Zach's little brother, Cam.  Quite often, I find myself being corrected on things like "that is a Styracosaurus, not a Triceratops" by Cameron and you know what they say, "never argue with a 2 year old" well, when it comes to dinosaurs... he is usually right!

So, on Friday we finally ventured to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point.  We have wanted to go there for a very long time, but have just now made it.  We went with Wawa and Papa (Jack and Chris.)  We had a wonderful day and learned A LOT!

(This is the foot of a "Camasaurus." We had to get a picture of that!)

My favorite part was where they have a big window looking into a lab where real Paleontologists are working on real dinosaur bones.  It was really neat to watch them.  I think maybe I should have become a Paleontologist.  Going on long camping excursions into the desert, making new discoveries sounds like it could have been right down my alley.

Zach's favorite part was the 3-D movie.  We learned that they believe that only 2% of all Dinosaur species have yet been discovered, which means that there is still plenty of work for future Paleontologists like Zach!

Cam loved the sand pit where the kids could sit as long as they like and dig up bones, this time they found a Stegosaurus skeleton!  Anything that involves digging in the dirt is alright with Cam!

One last cool bit of information that I learned...  Did you know that sharks have been around since long before the dinosaurs?  As if sharks weren't creepy enough, but to know that they have survived on this planet for over 300 million years...  kind of interesting??? or maybe not, I think so.

So there you have it, these are the reasons why
"WE LOVE DINOSAURS"

Thanks Jack and Chris, for a very fun day!

It was a great day and a great place to spend the day with you guys. My 2 little dinosaur sweethearts were so much fun just watching them enjoy the day. My favorite part was Zach when we told him we were going there..he said..."Oh that will be so exciting for Cam, he has never been to a museum before!" (like this was an everyday occurence for him) And when we were looking in the window at the palentogolists and he said I'm going to be a palentologist someday! love you guys! Wawa

I will do my best to fulfill Rachel and Leslie's request for a video of Zach's dinosaur impressions. It's not easy though, he has a real hard time staying in character when the camera is rolling. Every few seconds he says, "did you get that? can I see?" I will have to do a sneak attack! Stay tuned...

What a fun day! Next time I'm in Utah I'm thinking we'll have to make a trip down to Thanksgiving point, I wonder if my girls would love it half as much as your boys! What a great story and photos!
