It's been another busy week around our house. Not so much play this week, mostly just work, but it's the kind of work that will leave us with a whole lot of playing in the end... if that makes any sense at all.
Greg and I spent the majority of our spare time this week raking out top soil and pulling out rocks to make way for our new sod!!! Yes!!! I can take my shoes off and walk barefoot in my yard!!! It has been a long process and we are not quite done. After the sod is all out we have another surprise project for the boys... oh they will be so happy!
This is what our yard looked like when we first moved in... nothing, but sage. Beautiful, that's why we bought it, but I think you can see why I have missed the feel of grass on my toes!
The past few months we have planted quite a few trees and perennials. I have been clearing out old dead sage and grass while Greg has been leveling and moving dirt and rocks. He pulled all of these huge boulders and made a stairway and rock garden. This isn't a very good angle of it, but it is really beautiful, he is amazing!
This is the beginning of my shade garden under the deck. I know it's kind of weak right now, but it will get better over time. I just love a good shade garden full of Hostas, Coleus, and Ferns. I love all the colors and variations in the leaves.
The laying of the sod... a very exciting moment!
Cam could care less about the grass. He just wants to play in the dirt, as if we don't have enough dirt around here...
Nikita found her spot for the evening, from the second Greg layed down the first piece of sod, she was all about it. Look at that smile on her face.

wow!!! how fun for you guys!! that will be so great. you have always loved to get your green thumb on, hope you've enjoyed the labor!
oh wow, suzan! i can't believe the transformation you guys have done on that yard. you're right, it was beautiful before, in it's wild state, but i can see how fulfilling it would be to have your own little tamed spot for relaxing. greg's handiness never ceases to amaze me. now i understand why you couldn't hang with me this weekend. it's all come together for me....
What a wonderful yard you are creating! Thanks for allowing me to come and see what was up this weekend. The boys were really excited pointing out where everything would go. And I was shown the playground boxes several times. I really enjoyed hanging out on your deck with you and just relaxing and visiting. Guess I should have dug in and helped out in the trenches. I think Cam will soon realize that there will always be dirt for him. He may even learn to enjoy the soft grass. And Zach, you are such a poser on the sod pile. Luv you bugs!
Congratulations..again. I think I say that a lot, just so excited for all the stuff that's been going on. nothing like a lawn and the smell of freshly mowed grass. One of my favorite smells ever! Enjoy!
i love your panoramic shot. you've always been a panoramic-er!
