Greg and I have always thought we wanted a boat, but at some point last summer we came to the realization that financially, a boat is a little bit unrealistic. At that point we decided that we would LOVE a couple of kayaks. We have done some sea kayaking in our travels, once in Mazatlan, once in Thailand, and once in Puerto Vallarta. We have always thoroughly enjoyed it and we felt like it would be so fun and so easy to do living so close to a lake, plus financially it is much more realistic! Purchasing these kayaks became a top priority to us and finally, thanks to a sweet Economic Stimulus check, we have made the purchase!! They arrived last weekend. Zach and Cam were very excited to open the "Big Present" on the deck. I have to admit, I too was VERY excited! I guess that's why I took so many pictures!
Our first trip out on the lake was just for Mom and Dad, the weather was not ideal, but we were determined to try these things out... it was wonderful! With storm clouds looming all around we took a quick paddle up the shore, took a little break on a patch of green grass and paddled back. We were "just getting our toes wet." I was totally hooked at that point. I couldn't wait for the next venture. Unfortunately, those storm clouds stuck around for most of the week.
Our second trip out to the lake was just for Mom and Dad too. This time we found out just how far it is to the beaches across the lake. We also found out what a great workout it is to get there. I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The trip back was breathtaking. I couldn't stop taking pictures. It was just before sunset, the water was glass, the air was perfect, there was only one boat on the entire lake. I had a real hard time staying focused on paddling, somehow the camera kept finding it's way out of my pocket. Greg kept making snide remarks like "This isn't a free ride, you know." But at least we have lots of pictures, right?
So today is for the kids! The weather is absolutely perfect! The lake is down there just shimmering in the sunshine. There are only a few boats out. We will be taking the boys for their first trip. I really hope they like it! The ultimate goal is for Greg and I to each take a kid and a dog. Greg spent yesterday paddling with the dogs, he said Nikita was good as gold, and Roscoe did a lot of swimming!

SUE!!!! THAT RULES!!!!
Wow, I am so impressed and so jonesing for my turn. And happy to say that I have been present on two out of three tropical sea kayak excursions! :) You are right, the views from the water are breath taking! I was totally laughing at Greg's snide comments about the free ride. I can just see it. And that pose he's making with one leg stretched out and his hands on top of his head is so classic Greg. I swear I have seen him do that 100 times.
Love to you both. Don't be stingy with those things when I get in town. (And a big huge thanks to good old George W.)
Congratulations on the new Kayaks? I love Kayaking, such a great workout!!! SO much fun!
No wonder you were looking so great in your bikini yesterday...by the way, I'm so excited I can say that I saw you yesterday! Just so you know, Hannah left Lagoon in tears too. Then she asked when we sould come back, and I told her after she gets back from NY with my parents, and she cried again because she had so much fun in PC and Lagoon. Her and Zack were adorable buddies.
You're Kayaks look so fun...just have to say it again: Your house is awesome and your family is adorable!!!
What exciting news about your kayaks! It just shows that if you put that positive energy out there, good things happen. I'm glad you took so many pictures. There can NEVER be too many for me!
COOL! You are so adventurous. Wonder if I could do that. We'll have to see.
