Has this ever happened to you?

This is what we woke up to this morning... in fact, this is what we wake up to quite often, but this morning I hurried to grab my phone to finally catch some pictures.  The deer will walk right up to our bedroom window.  I think they get tripped out because they can see themselves in the mirror above my dresser.  They just can't stop staring in.  It's quite entertaining.  One time I woke up in the middle of the night to the shadow of a deer against the starry sky just staring at me... kind of creepy, but also pretty cool.  They are literally only a few feet away so it's always a little shocking and unexpected.  My kids don't think much of it.  How funny is that?  Just the norm...

There were easily over a dozen deer this morning, each taking turns checking us out.  Then it was interesting to watch as the magpies swarmed the deer.  You can see a few of them on the back of one of the deer.  They are eating something off of their backs and their behinds.  Sometimes there would be like 4 birds on one deer.  I felt bad for the deer, how annoying!
All of these pictures were taken from my bed.  These are the kind of mornings that, even besides MORE SNOW, (ughhhh) I realize what a special place we live in.  And I feel like, even though they may not realize it, my kids are pretty dang lucky!

How cool is that!?! Remember when you were little and we had similar situations in our back yard in Farmington? Cool stuff.

how rustic! I think the magpies are eating parasites off the deer"s back. The deer probably love it.

I had a moose staring in my kitchen window one winter. He lived in the yard until we had to call Fish and Game to chase him off. He ate every plant in sight. I am checking the window every morning to see if one is in the yard. This is the first year we have not had one.

I think I would scream at the top of my lungs if a moose ever came up to my window! But I would think it was really cool after the initial shock was over! That's pretty cool.

Mom, I am still sticking firm to my belief... that was a MAN I saw looking through our window, NOT a mountain lion!!! No one has ever believed my story, but I'm sticking to it!!!

I did grow up in a very cool house in Farmington, full of wildlife. What sticks out in my mind most is Tarantulas on my big wheel and snakes eating our bird eggs out of their nests. Oh yah and there was the squirrel that came down the chimney into our living room only to get hit over the head with the shovel from the fireplace tools!

We had some pretty good adventures there in that little pink house. It's hard to believe we can never go back there other than in our memories :(

Love the deer in the window. I love living where there is wildlife. I can't believe you got more snow. Your house still likes like ours and I'm getting really depressed. I think I need to just go to Vegas, St George, or even Moab for a couple of weeks or I'm going to go crazy.

Greg has experienced these things here with deer everywhere in our yard...one year we had one live here, and the Wildlife people brought us food, until an idiot neighbor called the police and they came and shot it. My nieces were always nervous to stay overnight here because they were afraid of deer looking in the windows. I loved it. I am so glad that you are having these great experiences. Thanks for sharing the stories!

as a matter of fact, yes that has happened to me. coming from alaska there were moose wondering the neighborhood quite often. they would come up to our kitchen window in the summer (2nd floor) and stick their nose up to the window, sometimes we would give them slices of bread. it makes me smile when i read the book, 'if you give a moose a muffin'. you did awsome capturing the moment!!!

Suz- you seriously do live in such a special place! It's just amazing living so close to nature like that! I think you guys should stay put there in your little slice of paradise. I've still got to get Kristen up there to see it for herself!
