It may sound dumb, but I am feeling a bit like a failure. I have never before packed up camp and left before the trip was over. Camping is a lot harder than it used to be. We used to just throw a few things in a back pack, grab a tent, sleeping bag and cooler and head out, just like that. Now days, not only is our Explorer packed to the brim with backpacks and blankets and toys, but we also have a rack on top that we can barely close because it is so full, plus a trailer with the 4 wheeler, and enough food to feed an army. We had planned for weeks for this trip and we were really looking forward to it. So even though the weather forcast plainly called for scatterd thunderstorms, we thought we would take the chance. We headed into the High Uintas on Thursday evening, by 3PM on Friday we had camp all packed up and were headed back home. We would have lasted longer if it wasn't for the fact that Cam wanted nothing to do with hanging out in the tent or under the tarp all he wanted is to splash around in puddles, at this point he had already soaked every peice of clothing we had brought for him. Cam is not one to give in without a fight... My nerves were shot and there was nothing fun or relaxing about it at that point! Luckily we did have a few hours in the morning with no rain so we were able to enjoy ourselves for a little while.

Bryan and Annalisa had planned to meet us up there on Friday. We got out of the canyon just as they were pulling into town. After learning that the forcast had not gotten any better, we decided to go back to Rockport and camp at our house! I know, it sounds a little comical, but it is actualy very normal to have people camped out in your driveway in this neighborhood and it turned out to be a lot of fun. They pulled their trailer in, we pitched our tent next to it, and we camped! Bryan grilled up carne asada, the kids made smores, and we played cards while the kids watched movies... We were really roughing it!!
It was really dissapointing to wake up on Saturday morning to pouring rain once again. Bryan and Annalisa decided to head home. When the sun came out for a few more hours we made the best of the very fall like weather and had a picninc in the tent. I guess we did our best to enjoy the weekend, but we do feel a little robbed of our vacation. This was possibly the first time ever that Greg and I have both had a Saturday and Sunday off together at home. It felt a little strange, we weren't quite sure what to do with ourselves. But it felt great at the same time. It made me feel like maybe we are missing out on something and we need to figure out a way to have a more "normal" schedule.

All said and done, things didn't turn out as we had planned, or expected, but then again nothing ever does, and if it did, then we wouldn't have much adventure in our lives. At least we still made some great family memories, have some funny stories to tell, and we took lots of cute pictures... And those are the things that are most important!!!

Sounds like a wonderful camping trip. Childhood memories are what it's all about. I have many funny stories from my childhood and yours. Most of them revolve around vacations/trips and unplanned happenings. Just go with the flow and enjoy your life. Your boys are growwing up all too fast.
Love you!
Sounds like a great weekend any way. Life is good.
I can't believe the way the weekend turned out, but props to you all for making the MOST of it! I only wish that my tent was pitched right along side yours in your back yard. I am also jealous that you are hanging with Bryan. I haven't spent time with him in soooo many years. It looked like fun. You guys are the coolest!
P.S. Check out my blog. I am for real.
hahaha! that is a great story. props to you for not giving up!
almost all of my fave memories from childhood revolve around vacationing. they'll all remember this camping in the front yard experience forever!
