Early Bloomers

Every morning I wander around my yard, sip my coffee, pull some weeds and admire the latest plants to emerge through the soil. I am so pleased, so excited about how things are going. The other day I really got to thinking about what things looked like out there just a year ago. I remember being so extremely disgusted with how my yard had turned out after a few years as a rental property. We had put a whole lot of work into it before we abandoned it and left it to die. This time last year, Greg and I could not wait to tear it all out and make everything new and fresh and just the way we wanted. So we worked our butts off all Summer long. We tore out trees, leveled the soil, dug trenches for sprinklers, layed sod, added rocks and planters and filled it all in with hundreds of perennials. We did every drop of it ourselves. As Summer and Fall passed and Winter came in we could not wait to see it all come back to life again this Spring, bigger and better than before. So as I thought this over, I remembered posting some embarrassing pictures last year just before we started digging in. I just had to go back and check them out.... We worked so hard! I feel a huge sense of accomplishment every time I step foot outdoors.

It's no big secret, I am in love with my flowers and with taking pictures of my flowers. It never gets old to me. They are always changing. I could have a photo shoot in my garden every single day. I just love to look at them up close. Anyways, I ran outside in the rain the other day and took some shots of my early bloomers. I'm sad that I missed the boat on the daffodils, we had snow this week and they aren't looking very happy anymore. Many of these flowers have been transplanted many times over the last few years. So it's nice to see they have survived yet again. The red tulip was a bulb Zach brought home from school last fall during "stay drug free week" Every year when it comes up it will be a reminder of his pledge... I think that is a pretty cool message and what a beautiful flower it is!

Awesome! I love the drug free message of the red tulip. Kids need all the help they can get. Great idea the teacher had.

Your yard does look amazing. Don't you love seeing how all that hard work pays off!? I too could take a million pictures of flowers, although my photo shoots don't turn out nearly as well as yours. Beautiful! Glad to have you back bloggin :)
