Life Changes

It's been a crazy couple of weeks for us.  A lot has changed that will directly effect the way things will be for us from now on.  It is amazing how quickly things can come and go and how one decision can effect the rest of your life.  This was a tough decision because we realized immediately how much things were going to change, but an easy decision because we knew right away what we needed to do.

Greg has accepted a new job working for my brothers company, AMC.  Today is his first day. He has worked for Quiksilver for the past 8 years.  Quiksilver has basically been our life.  It has allowed us to live the lifestyle that we love.  We have both always had a flexible schedule that we could easily balance between the two of us.  We work with some very cool people from the CEO's to other Store Managers to the Sales Associates.  Quiksilver is a family and it has proved to be very hard to leave.  I feel for Greg as I know that this has been very difficult for him to do.  But it has come to the point where we realized there is not much opportunity for growth there.  Greg is someone with many dreams and goals and he is always striving to do more and to do better.

He has accomplished so much with Quik and he has helped many of his employees through tough times in their lives.  I have often thought that Greg should have been a High School counselor.  Our young employees really look up to him.  He has sat with many of them and, I think, taught them valuable "tough love" lessons.  Greg is not one to sugar coat things.  He tells it like it is and he always gets the point across.  As stressful as that sometimes was on him, I think he is really going to miss it and I know that these kids are going to miss their life lessons from Greg.

So we are moving on to a completely new path.  It's a scary thing to do, but we feel that it's the right thing to do.  Greg has a brilliant mind and he will absorb this new information like a sponge and I know that he will be a great and valuable part of Bryan's team at AMC.  He has been given a wonderful opportunity there to better himself and help grow an already booming business.  I am so excited for him and I feel that he will accomplish many more great things.  The toughest part will be getting up in the morning... 5 AM has never been a part of Greg's day.  Like his mother said "I don't think Greg has EVER seen the sun come up."   Well, he did this morning!

As for me, I will be staying with Quiksilver.  We have deep roots embedded there and we can't just cut them from our life.  I am going on 10 years there and I can't imagine life without our Quiksilver family.  Besides that, I also really need to step up my game around the house.  I have to admit I am feeling really guilty right now.  It's time for me to get off the computer and get back to the laundry.  How lame would it be for Greg to come home from his new job to a dirty house and a wife who hasn't left the computer.

Wish us luck on our new life adventure!

WOW! What will he be doing for AMC?

I totally agree that he has a BRILLIANT mind. Let's get that boy doing what he was meant to do (rip it up in some amazing and world changing way).

Good luck with the big changes. I hope this is a really positive move for you guys.

Wow, that's is huge! So what is AMC and what will Gregg be doing for them?
Getting up in the morning is a hard one, but chances are he may like watching the sun rise. Good luck with both of you...Maybe I too should get off the computer and actually get the kitchen clean!

But seriously, you're singing my tune here. I feel every word you jsut said, it's what Mitch and I have been going through for the past year. Life's hard, ya know? But you make sacrifices and get yourself ahead. You guys will do great. Love you both!

AMC stands for Allens Masonry Construction. Bryan and his wife Annalisa run it and have turned it into the largest masonry company in Utah and surrounding states. They always have multiple jobs going along the Wasatch Front and several out of state. It's quite impressive!

Greg will basically be doing the things that have overflown off of Bryans plate. He will be learning all of the OSHA requirements (safety rules and regulations) and he will be in charge of making sure all job sites are up to code. He will be transferring equipment from job site to job site, and I guess just whatever else Bryan needs help with.

So far so good! Thanks for all of your kind words! We really appreciate it!!!

Greg calls it his "Big Boy Job"... last night when he was at Bryan and Annalisa's house Brexton (Bryans 9 year old son) asked Greg "So you don't work at the skate shop anymore?" and Greg said "Nope, I work for your Dad now" and Brexton said "Oh, so you're going to get old now like my Dad..." I just thought it's funny how his conception of Greg's age was altered by his job. Greg is actually 6 months older than Bryan... :)

Susan, you and Greg are lucky to have each other. You really compliment each other. I admire you both and how you work together and support each other. Greg really is amazing and underestimates his potential. The sky is the limit with you there to support him! I love you both!

Chris, that was so sweet... thank you so much :)

Laughing out loud about Brexton's comment! I am sure that his perception of Greg is just how he would want it. Young and hip. Darn, now I guess he has to get "old" like his wife!!! ;)

The world is full of opportunities. This is a big step for Greg and your family. I know you will make it all work out. CHANGE! That's a scary word sometimes. We've all seen it and how it alters our lives. Good things are coming your way. If you ever need any help just call.
