I have already confessed my deep love for Brighton, just a few posts down, but I have another true love and that is Powder Mountain. Every time we go there I leave absolutely exhausted and I am almost always saying "That was the best powder day I have ever had." Yesterday was no exception...
Yesterday was the kind of morning that I expressed in an earlier post HERE while I was day dreaming about powder days. The only differences are we were heading to Powder Mountain this time instead of Brighton and at Powder Mountain they let any dummy try to get up the canyon no matter how gnarly the roads are.

What is normally a 1 hour drive, took us 2 hours. We were praying the whole way that the canyon wouldn't be closed. The roads from Morgan to Eden were terrible. We saw several snow plows, but it was snowing so hard that it wasn't even making any difference. (I know Chris and my Mom are freaking out right now at us driving in this, but trust me, I just drive at my own cautious, slow pace. I am very careful... sorry, had to throw that out there for their peace of mind, although I doubt it helped.) Anyways, so we finally get to the canyon and they don't care who comes up. Anyone can give it a shot. We were behind a front wheel drive hatchback of some sort, they were fish-tailing from one side of the road to the other, every now and then the hatchback would pop open and 2 girls would jump out and start pushing, then they would jump back in. Eventually we got around them and I really doubt they made it all the way to the resort, but they definitely deserve an A for effort. Greg was a little frustrated with them at one point and I said "You know if that was our car and we were a few years younger we would be doing the same thing." Jake reassured him with the exact same comment later. It's the truth, sad but true.
There is not a blog appropriate word to describe how hard it was snowing. "Dumping" doesn't do it justice. We were stoked! We rode Paradise Lift all day. It was unbelievable... the snow was mid thigh deep... not another track... the coverage is better than it has been in years... it was snowing so hard that on each run our tracks were filled in from the last... on each chair lift up we would be covered in about an inch of snow by the time we got to the top... It was beautiful!!! We were bombing it, so fast. The kind of day that you just lean back, point it, and enjoy it. I was getting face shots with every turn. The kind of face shots that leave you blind and constantly wiping off your goggles so you have to anticipate your next few turns ahead of time. I was following Greg so I was eating his 20 foot rooster tail and my own. There were times that I was literally eating snow. I just couldn't hold in a WOOOOO HOOOOO at the top of my lungs. (That was normally when my mouth would fill up with snow)
I realize that is like a foreign language to a lot of people, but that is the only way I know to describe the kind of day we had yesterday.
It was a BEAUTIFUL day!!!
This is my Heaven on Earth.

I woke up this morning to a powder alert email from Powder Mountain that said they received 24 inches of snow yesterday on top of the 14 the day before... and check out this weather forecast... Oh Yeah! This is what you call a Real Utah Winter!!!

SUE!!!
I can feel your jones. You couldn't even get those words out fast enough, could you? You are definately a winter girl...It has been so long since I have rode in that much snow. I don't even know if I could anymore! And you are right, I better not let Mitch onto this post, he would go to the bathroom and throw up!
Right on for having such an epic snow day. Did Jake go with you? Right freakin on.
Jake went to Park City, but he and Greg exchanged stories of their great day over the phone on the drive home. It is never easy to get people to go with us to Powder Mountain. It's a long drive, but always worth it!
Glad you had a great day. You're right, I worry about you driving in those conditions but I know there's no stopping you. I know your always cautious and level headed. Looks like there will be more days like that as the forecast is snow, snow, snow!
rock fricken on...as always!
i'm going to brighton friday. woohoo!
This is one of the many things I treasure about the blogs! You young ones live, think, and move in a different space, and it is such a gift to be able to share your experiences. You kids are so full of life, energy, and adventure. How we love you! The way you grab life is soooo awesome!
barb (right?)...we learned it from watching you!! thanks for being a great mentor! i hope i'm still living life so wonderfully when i am your age.
Rachel is right, Barb... It is a very important goal in my life to be in as good of shape as you when I am your age. So I can still do the things I love and live in the place we live.
Ray- Are you going to Brighton with someone? We need to go snowboarding sometime... Seriously!!!
OK, It is the best snow winter in years. It snows here everyday. Looks like the North Pole. I walked this morning and it was like walking in deep sand. Wore my legs out. We wear cleats on our shoes. It is so beautiful as Ihave said before early in the morning before the rush of the day starts. Glad you had fun skiing. But I have to say it..be careful.
