Road Trip!! First stop~ Vegas...

Last month we set out on a road trip with the Mooney's, the Grand destination... Disneyland! We had been looking forward to this trip for a very long time. We started talking about it a couple of years ago, but you know how life goes (maybe it's just ours)... something always comes up, so we had to keep pushing it back and pushing it back. I'm actually glad that we did. The timing was perfect. Our boys were just the right age to enjoy their first road trip.

I have to admit, I was feeling a whole lot of guilt the day we set out. My boys had been sick and out of school. Cam had already missed one whole week, and Zach had missed 3 days... and here I was about to take them out of school for a whole other week. Made me feel like a bad mom, but it didn't take me long to get over it, as soon as we hit the road we left all that behind us... we were on vacation! Woohoo!

We drove in a caravan heading South through Utah and on to Vegas, I haven't driven this stretch in a very long time. In my late teens and early twenties, my friends and I used to make that trip a lot! Often for no good reason, sometimes just to ride the roller coaster at Buffalo Bills, or to catch a Lollapalooza show, and every now and again just to get out of Utah for a couple of hours. I did a lot of reminiscing these good old days while driving through the Nevada desert, which I never took the time to appreciate when I was younger. It's a beautiful drive when you really look around, I never saw this before. What is crazy is that in all of my trips to Vegas over the years, and all of Greg's trips to Vegas over the years, he and I have never been there together... weird. That really put into perspective how long it had been since I had been there... Greg and I have been together for 10 years!

We arrived at our hotel in the evening. The Hilton, it was very ritzy and nice, would have been a wonderful place to relax and enjoy ourselves, without the kids!! Within 15 minutes my blood was boiling over and my inner voice was screaming "Get me out of here!!!" Geeze, Vegas is no place for little kids. I was wishing my kids were sound asleep as soon as we hit town with nearly topless women on billboards everywhere you look! Then walking down the hall to our room and strip club posters are around every corner. I go to flip through the book of menus and there they are again! Ahhh! Once we get the TV on, DO NOT flip through the channels!! Sheesh! The kids were bouncing off the walls, literally, from their 6 hour drive, they had so much energy bound up, and there was nothing we could do to slow them down. Tomorrow morning could not come soon enough, I was so ready to get out of there, but not before a photo shoot. As Greg and I woke up, the boys were peeking through the curtains to what was a pretty amazing overlook of Vegas. I took a million pictures. This I loved!

Since Zach and Cam were still sick at this point, we took them to the only open InstaCare in Las Vegas. THAT was interesting! I sure wish we would have gotten a picture of the doctor. He was quite the character in his Halloween scrubs, showing off his manly chest hair. We waited way too long to see him, but it was well worth it. We got our antibiotics and were finally on our way, next stop... Sea World!!

It's fun to see the view of Vegas through the eyes of the boys. So much for those little minds to take in. I love your pictures, you really caught the amazement they were experiencing.

Sorry to be so late in commenting. I love your insights into your life and feelings. You have a real gift for expressing yourself. Great pics of Zach and Cam's expressions as the survey the view below them. When are you going to share the rest of the trip? I also want to see a picture of the Vegas doctor!
